As of Friday, July 25, 2025, the longstanding territorial dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has erupted into full-scale military conflict, marking the most severe escalation in over a decade. Day Two of Heavy Fighting

Landmine Incident Sparks Outrage
The conflict was reignited after a Thai soldier stepped on a landmine in Ubon Ratchathani province on July 23, resulting in the loss of his leg. Thailand accused Cambodia of planting new mines, while Cambodia denied the allegations, stating that the soldier had strayed into their territory. The incident led to the recall of ambassadors and the closure of border checkpoints.
International Calls for Ceasefire
The United States has called for an immediate ceasefire and urged both sides to protect civilians and seek a peaceful resolution. Cambodia has requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting to address Thailand's actions, while Thailand has expressed willingness for bilateral talks.

The conflict centers on the disputed Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site awarded to Cambodia by the International Court of Justice in 1962.
